Getting Some Nude Body Painting In Times Square

On a sunny Wednesday afternoon in late July, a group of nudies including myself gathered in Manhattan. We prepared to get nude for among the few times public nudity is allowed in NYC: for a live art exhibition!

We, FKK, had partnered up with Andy Golub for a group body painting session at the outer edges of Times Square, 53rd and Broadway. Ten people participated, including a man who volunteered from the bunch.

First some people came over asserting the sidewalk we were on was their property (it wasn't), so Andy had to cope with them. Afterward we had some plainclothes police officers come over, crying and demanding that I put my clothes on.

I just kind of stared and continued to get painted. After affirming they were actually policemen, Andy recovered some files he carries with him, for situations just in this way. They calmed down and started reading a letter which clarifies that nudity is absolutely legal in NYC if it is part of an exhibition or show.

They said "alright" and left us alone. That is not a one-time occurrence for Andy, who gets disturbed and harassed all the time while doing his live body paintings, despite the fact that he has permission and that it's 100% legal.

There was a crowd of onlookers at all times, but in this place, it was much tamer than when I got body painted in the centre of Times Square. Individuals honed in a little too closely at times, but it was modest enough to control.

We took off our tops to begin, Andy painted, and then we continued to take off the remainder. It is the first summer that Andy has painting naked people in the daytime.

He previously had an arrangement with the city to only paint models in g strings until sundown. With a brand new lawyer, they managed to get rid of this unfair deal, and today he can paint naked people at any time of day (which was constantly legal).

Once we were all painted, we took a slow walk down to the busier part of Times Square, weaving through the swarms of people. The coffee shop patrons appeared happy to see us.

The reactions were mostly favorable. Nude (or almost-naked) people in the media all essentially signify one look, one race, one body type. We need more diversity in this way!

I inquired the models themselves for opinions about the entire encounter, and here's what they had to say:

"This was the formation of body art [while] discussing with, laughing with, shows off with, just having fun with the bunch. naturist 've been a performer for a long time, and it was likely the most ecstatic and appreciative crowd I've ever had. It was indescribably entertaining. I would take action again in a heart beat." Mr. Sandy

"As you may know from my site, I feel very comfortable naked and I 've been to numerous occasions that involved complete body painting, but doing it at Times Square brings this experience to the next level. It took some time to get used to maintain the center of attention of heaps of individuals, but the general feeling of enjoyment and encouragement caused it to be simple to enjoy it! Obviously, many people were curious about what was happening, and you could see a variety of reactions but nearly all were positive.

Many people were surprised to find out it was entirely legal. It was amusing to hear that even when individuals were baffled at first, they promptly approved the occasion just as they heard the magic word 'artwork' - Luckily, some people discovered another important factor of this body art event the models were of different ages and body complexions, which definitely promoted body acceptance; and could there be any better place for that than Times Square? " -Kirill

Yet, not all the reactions were favorable. Not long after the body painting, our good friend Maria received an anonymous letter. It was an appalling assault on her size and look. It read:

Nobody said you were beautiful or which you appear amazing because you didn't. As a matter fact most people who saw your pictures looked away in disgust.
